Purple swift-footed shore crab (Leptograpsus variegatus)
* aka Variegated Crab
A crab scurries along rocks around pools, filtering out food. Crabs are difficult to photograph, you have to approach from behind rocks and move extremely slowly. Kings Beach, Caloundra, Queensland, Australia.
Thanks to the Peter Davie, Senior Curator (Crustacea) at the Queensland Museum for the identification.
